Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the factors including the spousal support which affect parenting stress of preschooler s mothers and their quality of life;and to analyze their relationship. The subjects were 158 mothers who had a child under 6 years of age in Seoul & Kyungido. The instruments employed for this study were the Parenting Alliance Inventory(Abidin;1988);the Parenting Stress Index(Abidin;1990);and the Quality of Life Scale(Noh;1988). The data were collected from October 15;1998 to November 30;1998 through self-reporting questionnaires. The analysis methods were descriptive statistics;Pearsori s and Spearman s correlation coefficients;and stepwise multiple regression.

The results were as follows:
1. The spousal support was significantly correlated with parenting stress(r=-.320;p=.000) and quality of life(r=.299;p=.000).
2. The parenting stress was significantly correlated with quality of life(r= .349;p=.000).
3. While the perceived health status was not correlated with parenting stress;it had a significant correlation with quality of life(r=-.189;p=.018).
4. The significant predictors of quality of life were parenting stress;marital satisfaction;perceived health status;and spousal support.

In conclusion;the findings of this study suggest to develop a support program for mothers of preschool children to reduce their parenting stress and to improve their quality of life.
